The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine's Executive Veterinary Program was developed in 1991 to enhance the business, communication, and planning skills of busy animal health professionals.

The Executive Veterinary Program in Swine Health Management covers essential aspects of swine production and health maintenance to enhance the management, consultation, and problem-solving skills of veterinarians.

18th Annual CVS Swine Conference

The Carthage Veterinary Service Swine Conference is attended by more than 500 people and 50 companies and is recognized as an outstanding conference for pork producers. This conference is a key educational meeting for all aspects of pig production. This year is no exception as the planning committee tackled the dynamic changes in our industry. The conference has topics on disease management, reproduction, economics, environmental management, and biosecurity. The format of the conference features short science and practical presentations with in-depth breakout sessions appealing to staff, owners, lenders, and suppliers. This year’s meeting will have presentation on PRRS, PCV2, autosort systems, employee management, and cost of production. The breakout sessions are Wean-to-Market, Sow, Ventilation, and Employee Management. Key speakers include Ken Maschhoff, Dr. Scott Dee, Dr. Ron Plain, Dr. Dennis DiPietre, and Senator John Sullivan. As in the past, there will be a separate all day session in Spanish focusing on Breeding and Farrowing.

4th International Workshop on the assessment of Animal Welfare at Farm and Group Level

September 10 - 13, 2008 (Wed-Sat)

Hosted by: The Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO) and Ghent University

WAFL 2008 is the successor to the highly successful 1st, 2nd and 3rd WAFL held in Copenhagen (1999), Bristol (2002) and Vienna (2005) respectively. This three day conference will be of great interest to scientists and others working in animal behaviour, health and welfare, in particular those concerned with the welfare of farm livestock, laboratory animals and other animals housed and managed in groups.

Topics of this workshop will include the development of scientific and ethical principles to assess animal welfare at the farm and group level and the application and implementation of these principles to ensure and improve animal welfare in practice.

"PRRS Reverse Genetics: From the Laboratory to the Field"
Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is the most economically significant disease of swine in the U.S. This meeting brings together an international group involved in all aspects of PRRS research; researchers, students, swine health specialists, and pork producers interested in PRRS virus research are all invited to attend. A broad range of topics - from field studies to highly technical investigations - will be discussed.

There is no charge for attending the 2008 International PRRS Symposium, but registration is required. Register for the meeting and submit abstracts through the symposium website listed below. Abstract submission is open until Monday, August 25, 2008.
