Position Announcement: Director of Veterinary Technology

TAMU-Kingsville seeks an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Animal, Rangeland and Wildlife Sciences, College of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Human Sciences, Texas A&M University-Kingsville and the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute. This is a 75% teaching and 25% research, 9-month, tenure-track appointment. The research program must maintain at least 2 graduate students, at least $50K/year in external funding, and publish at least 1 refereed manuscript per year. In time, a second DVM position will be added to the program and the teaching load of this position will be lowered and an administrative appointment will be added. Summer salary (3 months) is available through summer teaching, or personal research grants. Initial salary shall be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

  1. Teach undergraduate-level courses to meet the needs of the Veterinary Technology program. Teaching load will be 75%, which is equivalent to3 courses/semester.
  2. Develop an extramurally-funded research program commensurate with a 25% research appointment.
  3. Advise undergraduates within the Vet Tech program and direct graduate students.
  4. Conduct administrative affairs for the Vet Tech program.
  5. Participate in the academic affairs of the department, college, and university as needed, inclusive of heading the university’s IACUC.

Qualifications:

DVM required with a Ph.D. preferred in animal science, veterinary science or related field from an accredited university

  1. Evidence of a strong interest in teaching
  2. Ability to teach courses in veterinary technology (i.e., must have a minimum of 18 graduate-level hours in veterinary science/closely related field)

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  1. Strong teaching skills
  2. Evidence of strong interest in the education profession
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and state, federal, and private natural resource organizations
  4. Demonstrated potential to attract extramural funding, and record of research productivity
  5. Demonstrated ability to communicate with students, professionals, and other scientists

Location:

Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) is located in Kingsville, a city of approximately 25,000 in southern coastal Texas. Kingsville is surrounded by the historic King Ranch and is about 40 miles south of Corpus Christi (population: 300,000), within 50 miles of Baffin Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, and a 2 hour drive from Mexico. TAMUK serves about 6,000 students. The Department of Animal, Rangeland and Wildlife Sciences offers a BS degree in Veterinary Technology, BS and MS degrees in animal science and wildlife science, and PhD degree in wildlife science.
